nTAPs Product Overview
The nTAP product line is engineered to deliver maximum visibility into full-duplex links, a critical component in analysis of high-speed networks. nTAPs work with network analyzers, protocol analyzers, intrusion detection/prevention systems, forensic appliances, remote monitoring appliances, RMON probes and other network devices that require visibility into a full-duplex network.
nTAPs provide three key advantages:
1.Guarantees high-volume data capture and performance
The nTAP offers complete visibility regardless of traffic levels. Unlike the SPAN port or port mirror mechanisms on a switch, the nTAP cannot drop packets, nor can it affect switch performance.
2.No risk of downtime
With an nTAP permanently installed, you never need to bring the link down to attach an analyzer or other device. Even if power to the nTAP fails, your critical links will continue to perform.
3.Flexibility
The nTAP family includes models and configuration options to replicate Ethernet data streams for analysis. Whether you need to monitor 1000base optical (SX, LX, ZX), copper, or other SFP-based technology there is an nTAP solution to bridge the gap.
Since the nTAP can provide access to all network traffic, it also reports on errors found in the physical layer from both sides of a full-duplex link. If the analysis device should fail, nTAPs ensure continued network operation. nTAPs are available in a variety of compact hardware configurations and meet international RF emission standards.

NI’s TAPs for full-duplex networks
" Network Instruments has announced an entirely new product line of hardware network Test Access Ports (nTAPs). The decision to develop and market nTAPs is in response to the increasing market demand for comprehensive, accurate analysis of full-duplex gigabit networks."
Guarantee high-volume data delivery with new nTAPs
nTAPs ensure complete visibility into your full-duplex network links to maintain high-volume data delivery without risking costly downtime. The nTAP family includes models and configuration options to replicate the data stream for analysis and supports redundant failover links on your network.
Whether you need to monitor 1000base optical fiber (SX, LX, ZX), 10/100/1000 copper, or other SFP-based technology there is an nTAP solution to bridge the gap.
